Monthly Motivational's

Monthly Motivational’s

Each month I wish to inspire you to become a better you. I will share various information and tips which have helped, inspired or motivated me along my journey. I sincerely hope they will assist you, in some small way, with your life’s path.

BOOK

I just finished listening to Sam Cawthorn’s “Bounce Forward: How To Transform Crisis Into Success”. Sam was a keynote speaker at a recent symposium I attended and he was engaging, funny and inspiring. He was in a serious car accident where he lost an arm and 3 years later was “Young Australian of the Year”.

The book has some great tips, ideas and insight what we do and how we can turn a crisis into success. He wants to show that “Bouncing Forward” is much better than “Bouncing Back”.

Check it out!

MOVIE

I watched “Ray” recently, the bio of Ray Charles, one of the greatest music icons of all time. He struggled with demons throughout his life, mainly stemming from watching his brother drown when he was young. These struggles appeared to live in down the path of drug use and a 16 year heroin addiction.

Ray started going blind when he was eight or nine years old but his mother was strong enough and wise enough to make him independent from a young age. In the movie it suggested that he never let anyone look at him as a ‘cripple’.

Because of the pain and anguish of losing his brother, Ray had imprisoned himself as a result and used his addiction to hide from the pain. What he had done it was make himself a ‘cripple’ onto himself as a result of that addiction.

Once Ray had freed himself of the addiction and dealt with his demons, then he was finally free.

It is very easy for us to imprison ourselves with our own demons and use outside stimulants (like drugs, alcohol, work, sex or TV etc) to numb the pain and suffering we feel inside.

Just like Ray, we still have to deal with own shit.

FOOD

Eat the fruits and vegetables that are in season. Try and source them locally so you know they are fresh. These are the foods our body needs for that particular season. Watermelon is perfect for summer as it replenishes natural sugar and water.

Listen to Mother Nature. She knows best.

MENTAL HEALTH TIP

Make connections. Last night we started a men’s “The Lost Boys” circle where a group of men sit around, talk about their issues, open up and be vulnerable. It is being held at ‘Squared Away’, a small organisation in Mandurah which is the brainchild of “Cracker” Waterman.

It was great to be a part of a group of men being open and honest about life and their feelings. By creating or being a part of your own support group, not only will you benefit, but you might also be able to help and inspire others with your story and suggestions.

I am honoured to be a part of it and the response from the men was overwhelmingly positive.

ESSENTIAL OIL/PRODUCT

As many of you are aware because of my history of doing “stupid boy shit” when I was younger I have got a few aches and pains, mainly in my shoulders, neck and knees. I recently started using a supplement called Sulphazyme which has all natural products in it including MSM.

My continual aches and pains since using this product have reduced significantly. This is not only alleviated my physical stresses, but also my mental ones as I started to become concerned that I may not be able to continue as a chiropractor in the long-term future.

I cannot recommend this product highly enough.

LOVE

This blog is dedicated to my Uncle Col, who passed away last week. He loved his family, having a fish and the West Coast Eagles.

He will be missed by many, but never forgotten.

Love you Col and wherever you may be, catch a big one for me.

TED TALK

This TED Talk is by a 12 year old African boy named Richard Turere. Richard is from a small African village that herd cattle. This is their livelihood. There was a problem with the local lions, where they would come in and kill cattle to survive. As a result the lions were being hunted and killed.

Richard came up with a very simple yet brilliant idea on how to keep the lions away and from attacking their cattle.

These inspiring to see such a young person with such a great idealistic cause to not only protect his tribes income, but nature itself, and then finding a solution to a delicate problem.

QUOTE

“Stay true to yourself, yet always be open to learn. Work hard, and never give up on your dreams, even when nobody else believes they can come true but you. These are not cliches but real tools you need no matter what you do in life to stay focused on your path.”

Phillip Sweet

LOOKING FORWARD

I am heading to “The Rites of Passage Institute” with Dr Arne Rubenstein for a 3 day live in facilitators course next weekend…and cant wait.
